I am to add that, subject to there

being no suitable candidates amongst the number

of retrenched officers and provided that

you are satisfied that the statements by

Mr.W.F.Coutts regarding his loss of British

nationality contained in his letter of

the 1st August to Messrs.Binnie Deacon

and Gourley, which formed an enclosure

to your letter M 3487 of the 17th August,

are correct, there would be no objection

on the grounds of his nationality to

his engagement as a cableway driver in

Hong Kong on the terms set out in the

enclosed telegram, or to his employment in

any otherpost in the Colonial Service for

which he may be qualified.
